Celebrating Women Who Design
de·sign: /də’zīn/ verb: to create, fashion, execute or construct according to plan
It’s Women’s History Month and we are highlighting women-owned businesses that we have had the privilege of serving as well as collaborating with through the years. For so long women in the design, construction, and finance industry were often unseen. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter designated that March 2-8, would be National Women’s History Week until 1988 when Congress passed Public Law 100-9, designating March as “Women’s History Month.”
This year’s theme celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” The theme recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions.
As a women owned business (WBE), UDP intentionally partners with other WBE’s to not only accomplish our projects but also share our vision of centering equity in both process and outcomes. This month we will feature design savvy women who have created, executed, and constructed businesses and buildings that make our communities better. Especially meaningful for our firm has been the opportunity to restore the Historic Coliseum Building alongside some of these brilliant women who are architects, interior designers, demolition contractors and art curators.
Look for our featured WBE’s this month as we celebrate these courageous women who have helped craft a fairer and more just society. #inspireinclusion #IWD2024
“From the first settlers who came to our shores, from the first American Indian families who befriended them, men and women have worked together to build this nation. Too often the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well.”
~ President Jimmy Carter
